Gorgeous saddle! I would like to know how you got the shipping so low? When I was trying to sell my dressage saddle the shipping was like $80-130 and it killed several sales. That was with UPS...so please tell me what size of box ect you are using to get that good of a rate...

Holy cow! The most we have paid for shipping saddles was $45 and that was to Canada, and usually for US shipping we only pay $20-$25.

I am mostly just planning to eat some of the shipping costs- I don't like to rip people off on shipping. I am hoping it won't be too much more, and the saddle is also a bit lighter than some others because the tree is not wood.

Geez I wish, to ship my wintec dressage saddle the carry case (material) gullet system leathers, irons, girth and pad it was $150 that was to Canada. In the states it was $135 to one zip and I can't remember to the other zip.

I don't mind eating some shipping but I was only selling my saddle to pay for my fillies vet bill so there was no way I was gonna eat that much.

I totally agree. Hopefully it won't be too pricey.

It will all depend on the size of the box. You should cut your box down so the saddle fits tight, with room to pad top, bottom and the sides. All the carriers balloon their rates on the oversize boxes and if you use a box larger than necessary, it is going to kill you on charges.
Fed-ex is one of the best deals going when it comes to saddles LOL, I use them all the time, but all depends on the zip and weight, and I shop around when I ship.

I bought [cough] a few saddles on ebay this year... going rate charged for shipping was around $30-40, however, when I rc'd the boxes, many times the shipper was able to send for in the $20's (the ship cost was on the ship label). The cheapest shipping I found was by USPS (united states postal service, not UPS), but it depends on not just the size of the box, but the dimensions.

The more square the box (ideal for saddle) the higher the cost was, the more oblong the box, the lower the cost. Why this is I don't know, but I do know that in my line of work, sending out direct mail that is a perfect square doubles the postage for the sender... for some reason, the ratio of dimension is more important to USPS than the overall size or even weight.

I actually got royally ticked at one person I bought a saddle from. She charged me $45 for shipping, but when the box arrived (it was the most oblong of all the boxes too) she only paid $17 and change for shipping.

Now, I understand a handling fee completely... its tough to get the right box, and packing it can cost $, and you can't just drop these things at your mailbox, you gotta take time from work or your Saturday and go stand in line, etc.... but $45 for $18? I barked big time.

I actually started saving the 'cheap' boxes (boxes that had the cheapest ship price) in case I ever wanted to sell any of my saddles in the future.

good luck!

That is a great idea! (saving the boxes). I hate it when people overcharge for shipping, so generally if I have overcharged by more than $2 I will refund money.
