My best friends rescue horse

We were at the same auction we bought our two at, but it was 6 months ago. The bid on this horse was $5.00 and the auctioneer said I refuse to sell a horse for $5.00 will anyone take him for free? Well, my friend raised her hand, and said she would. We figured he was so thin, he would probably have to be put down, but that at his age he deserved a dignified ending. We went out to see him, and she gave him a huge hug, and ended up covered in lice. UGHHHH so we named him Bugsy. Here are some before and after pics, but he's not done yet But it has been 6 months.

He had to be body clipped to get rid of the lice, this is a pic of his rear 1/2 done

and his rear now

before
after

He has hardly any teeth and his feed has to be watered, but look at the difference! She feeds Safe and Sound, the same feed we use on all our horses. We have switched our rescue to Golden Age by the same company however, for higher fiber.

It is amazing what your friend has done in six months. Any idea on the age of Bugsy?

That's a heartbreaking and a heartwarming story! What kind of person lets a horse end up like that....your friend has done a wonderful job...He looks fantastic...has put on a significant amount of weight and his coat just shines...Is he a TB or a STB? He is very pretty.

His coggins says he's 25, he has no back teeth, and only bottom teeth in the front. His name on his coggins was Twinkle Toes, poor boy, lol.

We don't know what breed he is either. He was brought in by a VERYlarge man, who had not missed a meal in his life. Dropped off in the kill pen with an Appy who had really bad sheath cancer. Then the man drove off and just left them there.
I told her to send pictures to the feed company we use. That for sure is a success story for the nutritional value of their feed! That's also where the shine in his coat comes from.

WOW....I'm SO glad ya'll helped him! I hate seeing those horses have a sad ending...they all deserve to live out thier life without fear and pain. These kind of stories really touch me..... Thank you to you and your friend. I've only been able to rescue one in my time so far...and he wasn't quite this bad off...but stories like this inspire me to try and help others in the future.

I'd say so! OH, Lazy_F_Ponies, you just AMAZE me with your kind heart! I hope when I grow up I'll be like you--be able to save a bunch of horses and let them live out their lives. He is just GORGEOUS! I love him! How much would you take for him? JUST KIDDING! Lol, he is quite a handsome boy, though!

well I just found out some amazing information about our latest rescue Hope - she actually is registered as Doc O Lena Second - she is an own daughter of Doc O Lena. Is a fully trained cutting horse and an NCHA money earner. Amazing where these horses end up. She's 30, not 28 like her coggins says. something about her told me she was a grand old lady. She truly is. Here is a pic of her now

And how she looked before (I'm not sure how long before, am waiting for a reply)
