glad you posted this one shannon. Colors do vary so much so going by what they look like is not accurate always.

Was there ever a final verdict on the young horse? I am curious too.

Can you have a dun without a dorsal? Maybe I missed that in the earlier discussion. I know that duns have them I just wondered if you could call a horse dun if it had all the other traits.

Edit: Sorry I see now that my last question was answered. What about the young horse though?

Okay - so my brother (not the one that owns this filly, but the one who is training her) came to the house yesterday and he said that Adea is losing hair and getting slick.

He said she no longer has any evidence of a dorsal stripe . How can she lose a dorsal stripe that was that prominent just a month ago? Is that possible? Shouldn't it have become more obvious and visible as she shed out?

Darn it, I guess I am going to have to drive 30 minutes to his house because I want to see this with my own eyes....

That is the thing about buckskin offspring they are often born with LOTS of primitive markings that do not last. She is buckskin...

That horse Shannon posted is buckskin and you can tell by looking at his face. Thought I'd throw that in there.

But sometimes buckskins will be born with dorsels and they'll shed away. I'm not sure how, but it happens. That's why you should wait to register until they are shed. But I guess everything worked out right?

Hmmm, I guess it is just that at a year old with a dorsal stripe as bold as she had I would have expected it to stay......stupid sneaky horse colors .

No, think Dunalinos. They often have a prominant foal doarsal that becomes a VERY faded dorsal as they shead their foal/yearling coat, but they are proven duns through breeding.

Which brings me to this post. Buckskin is also a "cream" modifier, so who is to say that it is not the buckskin cream "fading" the prominent dorsal she had as a foal? I'm still staying with thinking that she's a dun, though dunskin. Even if Mary says buckskin

Well, I am going to have to put a fire under Brett's butt to get the testing done.
