I also think he looks pretty straight in his hind angles, but he's so butt high right now that it's making it look even worse. I feel your pain, my 3 year old just sprung up 2 inches behind and he's all kinds of butt high. They'll even out. I do think they'll still be on the straight side, but not as straight as the appear now.

After looking at the other photos, I am not changing my conclusion... he is board straight in the hind end and that will cause problems.... there is no angle to his hock ... all this will make him VERY prone to hock soreness and hind end injuries.... specifically suspensory and hip injuries. Just be careful. If it were me, I wouldnt risk the injury to him. I realize he runs and plays in the pasture, but he also doesnt have the weight of a saddle & rider, or someone else puching him to push him self... he knows what he can take physically.

For starters...to the OP, he looks awesome now compared to when you got him. You deserve a big round applause for putting the bloom, weight, and conditioning on him! As for the conformation, I have to agree with Circle C here. Due to the high set of his hocks, he'll stay a little downhill. If his hocks were set lower and better angled, then I wouldn't be as concerned. He's also a little long and weak in the loin area and for barrel racing, you want a nice "connection" in that area so the horse can REALLY get under with the hocks and back legs for those turns. It will be much harder for a horse built this way to do that. It doesn't mean it can't be done but it is not ideal for the health of the horse. If he's got energy (and he's also young which could attribute to that energy) he might make a nice hunt seat horse where he can move out more; maybe hunter hack if he likes to jump. (He looks darn cute in that hunt seat saddle.) How tall is he now?

I want to thank all of you for your opinions and they ALL have been appriciated. Some of you pointed out some things i didn't WANT to see so thank you.

I talked to the trainer i was working with and when she gets the chance here soon she is going to come over and evaluate him for me. She hasn't seen him in a while so i explained everything that i'm concerned about and she agrees that its a good thing i called her. So after she comes out i will let you guys know what she says.
