yeah, but stallions are the cleanest by FAR!!

i have a couple hints for getting the horse to stay tidy. if you always put the hay in the same place everytime, the will tend to poo in one spot. if its right next to the stall door, then most of the mess will be at the back wall.
bored horses make a messy stall! bcuz they walk around and kick clean shavings over the top of the mess. so give your horse something to do!

we have rubber mats down, and put about 4 inches of shavings in.

lol when i saw this title i thought it said making NOT mucking so i was like whoa there! lol we just get a pitch fork and pick up the pee spots and poop spots. then every week we change the sawdust to clean stuff. the horses live outside and only come in to eat so we only get a few poo and pee spots every day.

First, I have two mares and one gelding that I usually do most days even though I don't have to. It's part of the board so if I can't be there or just choose not it's ok.

The stalls have a clay floor and we use straw bedding, usually 8"-10"" deep summer.

Guess I am fortunate that all my horses seem to go in the same spots everyday. First Thing is to pick "all" clean dry straw to one side or one corner. Then take out wet straw and manure out. Rake down clay bed. I usually let wet area dry for at least 1 hour. Occassionally use some stall dry on wet area. Then replace wet / dirty straw with clean straw 1/2 to 1 bale. I place and fluff new straw on top of areas that were wet. Take straw pushed aside and fluff over stall. Aside from waiting for wet area to dry out, mucking and clean stall takes about 20 mins.

In winter months we usually deeper straw bedding 12"-18''. Sometimes deeper. We don't always take down to clay floor everytime. Pick out real wet areas always.

The horse love the straw bedding and we have a readily and abundant supply of it.

One of my two mares is the messy one. Our gelding is the cleanest.

I use shavings and straw. I first clean all the poo and pee out of the straw and then push all the straw up against the sides of the stall. Then I clean all the wet out of the shavings. I let the stall air over night. Then the next morning I push all the savings back in the middle and put the straw over top of that. I strip the stall out completely ever 2 weeks. I add fresh straw and/or shavings as needed.
