Most fuel friendly car?

Which cars are the most fuel efficient? As in, which cars would I OVERALL spend the least on as far as gas? I am 16 and looking for a part time job, so I definitely need something CHEAP to keep lol.

I have heard that the following are very gas friendly:

Toyota Prius
Volkswagen Bug
Honda Civic
Chevy Cavalier

Will someone please help me with my car search?

I vote for Civic all the way. Cavaliers are nice, don't have much experience with them, though.

Another good car is my personal favorite, Toyota Celica. The mid-90's models get great gas mileage. They're not as nice looking as the newer Celicas, but they're still a nice looking car.

I drive a Plymouth Neon, you can find them super cheap. And my 5 spd gets about 45-50 mpg, they're cute little cars too.

Beau reminded me of another good car, a Dodge Neon. I've never driven one but everyone that I've talked to that has one says they're GREAT on gas.

My mom has an 07 VW Bug...it gets REALLY bad gas mileage for a new car. Less than 30 on the highway and closer to 20 in the city. Plus it's a bad drive...really bottom heavy.

I would go with a Prius, I'm all for hybrids. Civics don't get great mileage unless you get the hybrid. If I bought a new car I wouldn't settle for anything less than 40mpg. I would definitely get a Prius, you get almost 50mpg highway. The car I have now gets about 18mpg (1988 Honda Accord), so I'm filling up once a week at least. :/

Well for this, Smart Cars acutally aren't as good as people say.

I would say the Cavalier. Also the Ford Focus, and the Mini Cooper non-S if you drive it right it can get up to 35 mpg.

I miss my 97 honda accord, I got like 33 MPG. Now I'm driving an 04 honda accord v6 it gets about 27 if im lucky

My VW Beetle gets horrible gas mileage.

My mom's Prius has gotten worse as it gets more miles. She has 200,000 + miles on it though.

Shoot, I get 16mpg. Whatever you do, DON'T get an older Jeep Cherokee if you want to save some money on gas.

Civics don't get good mileage? Maybe compared to the hybrids today, but since she wants an affordable car, I think that 30+ mpg isn't too bad. Older Civics are usually pretty available (atleast they are down here), so they could definately be a good option for an affordable car that doesn't eat up gas.

Also Toyota Prius get worse gas mileage if you drive them over a certain speed...
