Hi there! I saw a post about this on another forum and thought there might be a funny story or two here too... I'll start it out... My most embarrassing horse moment happened during my first trail class. I usually just entered Western Pleasure, horsemanship and halter classes but decided to try trail one year. I had been practicing the jump with a broomstick about 1'6" off the ground. Everytime in practice it had come off without a hitch and I thought I was hot stuff. In the class they had a HUGE tree stump laying on its side to jump over... about 4' long, 2' high and 2' wide. I thought "how different could it be?". The jump was the last thing I had to do and everything went great up to that point. (I need to mention that the stands were full of spectators... I mean FULL) Anyway, we come to the jump... approach was great... jump was great... my landing was not. Heather (my horse) had to stretch out much further than when she went over the broomstick at practice and I was unprepared. When she landed my balance was off and the only thing that saved me was that I grabbed on to the saddle horn. As I clung to the side of the horse there was a collective **gasp** from the audience and a collective **sigh** when I finally was able to right myself in the saddle several hoof beats later. I know I turned bright red. Of course I didn't even place in the class. Many people I didn't even know came up to me after the show asked if I was OK. How embarrassing! |

YOu jumped 2 feet with a Western saddle?? My most embarrassing moment.. hmm.. Probably (it's not that bad lol) was when I was at my friend's house and she has a 16.1hh horse and I was trying to jump on him bareback but I couldn't get enough jump so I was like hanging there.. Finally I got on btw.. hehe Then we went to ride him in a ring with the English saddle.. My friend's taller/bigger than me so her saddle's bigger and I was sliding all over the place.. where she rides is this tack shop place and people were watching me.. my feet kept falling out of the stirrups too it was so annoying.. but yeah it wasn't a good riding day

Probably when I got bucked off of my neices "amish" pony they bought, that I was making sure was safe for her... after 5 times (within 15 minutes), I decided to call it a day, and he went back to the amish farm... OH and need I say there were about 10 people standing around watching.... including my neice.. saddle didn't fit, and of course when his head went down, and I tried to hang on... my legs squeezed around his belly and man did that make him hate it even more. Every one thanked me for a great time, and so did my chiropractor, had to go see him 3 times a week for the next 3 weeks...

LOL... I don't know the exact measurements but it was definately bigger (taller and much wider) than the lil'ole broom stick I had been using for practice. I do have to say that Heather was great and the whole time I was clinging to the side of the saddle she just kept going as usual and sorta looked back to say "whatcha doing now? Is this a new trick?" QHgirl... I know about those amish ponies. We live in amish country here and my niece has a pony just like the one you described. She was old enough to test him out on her own... thank goodness. |

What part are you from, close to Shipshewana? That is really amish country, in the previous post you said there was an auction with "death row" you talking about the Shipshe sale? Been there, cried the whole way through... it was so sad. How funny are our horses when they look at us like, what are you doing NOW!!!

Yup, it was the Shipshe sale. I live about 45 min from there. So very sad to see all those horses treated that way. If I could buy them all I would. Heather was a great horse. She's been gone to the great pasture in the sky for about 10 yrs now and I still miss her. |

ok, this happened when i very first started getting into horses, well, i went to a horse sale just to look at the horses and i was talking to some people. First they were talking about horses name. Then they looked at me and asked do i ride english? i thought they were still talking about horse names still, so i figured it was a horse and i said, "sure, i'll ride the horse, where is he?" everyone died laughing, while i died in embarrassment. blushing ***************** ~Rodeo in Faith~ |

Imagine riding proudly in your new, very expensive, riding clothes. Unfortunately, it had rained the day before. And unfortunately, I decided to mount my horse in the middle of a big mud hole. And the girth wasn't tightened. And I slipped in the mud with my new clothes. YUCK!

One of my most embarassing moments was about 6 years ago at a horse show. I was riding my old Barrel horses in the Pole Bending class. We turned the end pole to come running out and I saw that the pole was going to fall over. So I reached back to catch it and my shirt (nice western pleasure shirt) got caught on the saddle horn and ripped all the buttons and to top off my flashing everyone I fell off! My mare stopped and looked down at me like. Why are you there and not ON my back? LOL!!
