More starving horses rescued in Alberta *updated again, PICS added post 34*

It was just on the news, but I already knew about it. Bear Valley Rescue was there helping out. The RCMP and volunteers seized 6 starving horses on Sunday, March 16. Three pregnant mares, a yearling, a two year old, and a young stud. Six other horses were also found dead in the 2 acre pasture. The horses had not been fed hay over the winter. I believe the horses are now at Bear Valley Rescue, but I could be wrong... I'm going to ask them tomorrow, and I may be going down there anyways sometime in the next 2 weeks.

What's going on in Canada that all these horses are suddenly being neglected and starving and dying??????????????

It might seem all of a sudden, but it's been going on all winter. It's just not being advertised.

There was 30 head in Feb that were seized as well. They went to auction. I know of someone who bought 7 of them and they aren't in to bad of shape except for one baby that spent almost a week at the vets.

He's been upraded to royal pest.

Once they got those 6 out, did that leave any behind?

I just don't get it.

Our hay prices are good, and there is plenty available. The market is not terrible...

Slaughter IS still an option here, so if you can't feed them, run them through an auction!!! They may not even end up with the meatman!! Better then letting them slowly starve and suffer.

Makes me sad

I think that this is showing that slaughter does not stop this kind of abuse and neglect of horses.
