This thread is suppose to be about the rescued horses, NOT the price of hay and the closing of the slaughter houses. I think a new thread addressing those things would be appropriate if you want to discuss it.

To the OP, I'm sorry for taking this off topic, and will from here on stick to the topic. I just had to address what was said.

I'm glad those horses were rescued. Was it the one that wouldn't stand because it was so weak, that they put down?

As far as I know, none of them were put down.

There is one mitigating circumstance that everyone seems to be tippy toeing around so I am going to address the elephant in the room.

This happened on an Indian reserve, and here in Alberta First Nations people have a shockingly bad reputation for the way they treat their animals. I know of at least one gal with a full time job rescuing dogs off the reserves.

Not right, use all of the adjectives you wish, a sad fact of life in Canada, not limited to animals. Suicide and pervasive substance abuse are a daily reality on our reserves.

Well I am glad it worked out for you in that way.
My experience has been just the other way around I used to pay 80 dollars a ton now I pay 220 and have a hard time finding it.

Keno Hills received a $ 40,000 donation today from a group in southern Alberta. It included sweet feed, various grains, salt, minerals, supplies like halters, combs, supplements, etc.

They also received a $ 5,000 cash donation as well.

Every little bit helps.

Another update, pictures this time...

The RCMP are having a hard time establishing ownership... no one will admit to it because they will be charged. That being said, the rescue does not have permission to release these animals into the care of anyone else until ownership has been established and the rescue has a signed release.

Out of the six horses, the stud is in good condition, one mare is visibly worse, the yearling is weak and can't stand for long periods of time, and the others aren't doing great either. And their winter hair hides just how thin they are for the most part.

Here are the pictures on the website.

the stud who they've named Sunchild:

The little yearling has been named Miracle

The two year old is now called Maggie

Then there are the three pregnant mares...

Trey:

Duce:

and the worst of the mares, Badger:

The owner had better come forward, he deserved to be punished for this.

UGH! They all look so sad and pitiful!!! I hope they find out who owns them and deal with them accordingly.
