More on new horse behavior

Further to the thread about the new horse and the mare's behavior....

I have 2 mares and 2 geldings. The mares are at the bottom of the totem, and the boys are the bosses.

My quarter horse mare has always been extremely quiet, even her name is "Shy". So I wasn't too suprised that she was at the bottom. Plus I've been told that a female quarter horse will usually be more passive to any gelding.....truth? I dunno, you hear so much....

But I introduced my new 10 year old mare to them a month ago, and I really thought she would give the boys a run for their money. No way. She winces and whines like a little girl. (Although she was quite high up in the herd she came from), So the boys are still boss. She is above Shy though.

No alpha mare here, (except for yours truly).

I'm not worried, just kinda suprised at the dynamic, and watching to see if it will change.

Anyone else experience this?
