I don't think the 2nd guy was great (he puts the foot down and says, no flare, then you look at the foot and it is incredicbly flared on both sides).

I do not scrape, cut or remove live sole. The scraped-looking parts were dead, flaky sole. I will keep at the bars, but it is a very slow process, especially since I am a total wimp about the frog and cutting into live sole. No bloody feet allowed....

Have you taken your rasp and laid it across the hoof (edge down) to see how the hoof is laying? It will show you what part is making primary contact and how recessed other structures are.

Nope. I will now, though! Mostly I lay it flat to keep the hoof level, but I will try it on the edge. I didn't get to do the right hind today, so tomorrow I wil touch up the left (as I can) and then do the right - pictures will come soon after!!!

You want the primary weight bearing surface to be the inner hoof wall. Then the secondary weight bearing structures to be just underneath the level of the rasp. Just close enough to not touch it.

You guys were spot-on; I checked her foot this afternoon, and the bars were higher than the wall. I brought them down (like you said in your last post, Dawn - below the level of the rasp) and brought the inner heel down a bit also. Her feet are rook hard in the heel area, so I think there is still work to be done, but they seem better.

I don't usually post on hoof threads because I think other people usually do a better job of explaining what needs to be done.

It looks to me that there is a lot of flakey sole that looks like it needs to be taken off except for the sole in the toe area and the inside is higher than the outside.

It sounds like you addressed some of the inside heel today. Could we see updated photos?

For various reasons I can't be at the barn today until later, and it may be too hot to do feet. If not, I'll do her right hind and get pictures updated from the left to post.
