Napur was a very successful show jumper and he was trained by Monty Roberts. Also, although he didn't do the groundwork training on him or own him, Monty Roberts was the trainer responsible for Lomitas's return to racing in Germany after being suspended. Lomitas was later named Germany's Horse of the Year, and became a successful sire. Also, Julia's Doll was a successful AQHA shown mare trained and owned by Monty Roberts.

Julia's Doll was last shown in AQHA approved competition on 1965. Monty bought her in 1972, so he had nothing to do with training or showing her.

Johnny Tivo had most of his AQHA points from 1959-1965. Monty bought him in 1965 and the horse was shown one more year in 1966 in cutting.

I concur with Pink Horse on the big NH trainers having horses shown successfully on the breed circuits at the big shows. It doesn't happen.

Mine doesn't...LOL. The only thing big name trainers in AQHA (my circuit) sell are videos. The NH guys have cornered the market on the overpriced doo-dads and gadgets.

Hmm I just buy books because I like to read lol I don't by the gadgets and I really am not in this arguement because I am not a trainer (yet! lol) and I don't follow ANY trainer close enough to really offer much to the discussion.

Personally, not impressed. I have seen in person many years ago and the things he said just felt wrong to me. Among other things, "single line lunging is the second worst piece of horsemanship I have ever seen as it does not put a horse on the 'correct' bend" ...... free lunging doesn't either and ground driving while helpful toward that end is not guaranteed to do so. Never have been able to figure out what his thought process was on that.

The other thing that really turned me off is his thought that there is NEVER a reason to hit a horse. Now I am certainly not about to go off beating a horse, I am a firm believer that actions based purely on aggression should be met with aggressive responses, for example, biting. Biting is an agressive and potentially dangerous habit that should be punished quickly and leaving no doubt in the horse's mind that it is unacceptable. Agressive kicking and shoving also. Again to stress, I am not not about bloody, bruising or bone breaking punishment, I mean growling maybe judiciously applying use of a lead rope/crop fo three seconds then everything is over. And yes, I understand that many of these behaviors are inadvertantly taught or allowed to develope by poor handling but the point remains that they are dangerous.

I don't like that hes so commercial now either.

He's commercial??? Have you looked at Parelli and Anderson lately? Shameless commercialism, IMHO.

They all have something good to offer. Keep your ears open and you brain working. But, paying these ridiculous prices for their "special" products and tapes.......

I would much rather read books as well...LOL. Doug Carpenter wrote an awesome book on WP training (and what it SHOULD be) back about 12 years or so ago. A little background...Doug was the best WP trainer around a while back and had some World Champs. He didn't like the way WP was headed, so he got into reining and the like. I've met Doug a couple times and spent about a week at his place (my horse came through him and was at his place.) I found his book a great tool and it made a lot of sense, very simplistic etc. I haven't seen his videos though.

As far as gadgets go, I can make my own if I want, so I don't buy them...LOL.

There are many trainers with World Championships that have video tapes and books to watch and read.

There are many trainers that are much more accomplished and are great teachers also.

Trainers I respect take time to teach, not spend most of their day mass marketing.
