I do not like Monty Roberts LONG before this information was ever published.

His knowledge of WHY a horse does something is TOTALLY outrageous and he needs some education on the way a horse thinks and works.

His idea of wearing a horse out with no food or water for a few days, then breaking it without fences is totally, GRRRRRRRRRRRR. And to put it on national TV as well......That is what initially turned me away from him.

Join-up is just like Round Pen reasoning, justwith his "rendition" of why a horse is doing things. Which, if you know horse behavior, has some things that need to be corrected about why a horse is Standing next ot you and such.

Anyways, that's my quick "rant" about him LOL

I like Montey Roberts. I have seen him 3 times, watching him in his deminstrations. He also worked with my friends horse. He was very good and very kind with him.

I dont find any of his methods harsh. I read all of his books and watched his documentry. I never saw or heard about him totally wearing down a horse with no food or water, he does have his ways and they work very well and all I have seen has been kindness towards animals.

I enjoyed all of his books, I really liked the book "Shy Boy"

What? When did this happen? Do you mean Shy Boy?

I think Monty Robert's methods make a lot of sense. I don't beleive it's a lie. You can't lie with breaking so many horses in front of a live audience. I used his methods on my wild arab colt and they produced such amazing results. Anyone can beleive what they want, but I know what it did for my colt and I'll forever be amazed.

Monty's methods make lots of sense and do work. Lots of the "bad" press written about him has been just a bunch of sour grapes, people not happy with his success.

"Join-up is just like Round Pen reasoning" sounds like one of the Lyons groupies that can't see any other method but his. Never seen him take a totally unbroke or untrained horse in front of an audience and do anything. He carefully selects all the horses he want to work with in public. He doesn't want any embarassing moments.

I think if you have success with the Monty Roberts training style then by all means use it, Same goes for any other trainer, John Lyons, Clinton Anderson etc. Its what works best for you and your horse that matters. People are different and training styles are different, and no one person is right or wrong.

I agree with Paints4Me. I don't really like Monty Roberts, I don't agree with all of his methods, I think that a lot of them are more bandaids then actually fixes to a problem. But that doesn't mean that he doesn't work for other people. or that he isn't good at what he does. If he works for you, then by all means, use him.
I like Clinton Anderson, John Lyons and Pat Parelli, and not everyone likes them or their methods, but I have had great success with them, so I'll stick with it. But, like I said, if you find something that works for your horse, regardless of who it is, then use it.

Just FYI....heard that that site was created by Monty's family members that are angry with him for what he said about his family in his first book (The Man Who Listens To Horses). I've seen him in person many times....even went with my best friend to take her horse to him....what he does works. I don't follow or subscribe to his methods, but like I said....I've seen him and seen it work.

Yes, it was Shy Boy, there was a TV special when Monty first came out. I watched it and they showed the whole process of them keeping moving. He wanted the horse to Continue to move and NOT stop because of getting the horse away from the herd. Yes, that is good, but the cowboys with him Kept Shy Boy moving through the night while Monty slept. The horse accepted him because he was EXHAUSTED, not because he wanted to.

I haven't seen the special since the first airing, and many things were "EDITED" in things that I've seen since.

As for the comment about me being a Lyon's groupie, WRONG!!! I see and use MANY people. But Monty, Anderson, Lyons, Cox, etc all use the same thing, just call it different names.

As for his family, they are very upset about things he said about THEM that were not true.

Yes, he is a good SHOWMAN with horses, but that is about it. His reasons for horse behavior are WAY off the mark, he needs a good education in horses and not his funky "reasons" why a horse accepts things or does something. Because honestly, they don't make sense when I watch him on RFDTV. I'm like DO WHAT? NOOOOO YOU IDIOT!!! lOL. it is funny to watch me watch him on TV.

And I've heard of people (actual people) who have watched Monty go behind the scenes with a horse. Course most all of hte trainers BUT anderson have been caught doing something they don't want the audience to see, Even Monty. So he isn't PERFECT by any means.

And he is NOT THE ORIGIONAL HORSE WHISPERER which was the FIRST thing to **** me off about him. My grandfather and his father are OLDER than him, and they did this stuff LONG before Monty ever thought of it. He was the first one to MAKE MONEY Off of it, and that is it.

Blistering Winds you have alot of anger with him. Every trainers trys to be successful and yes they make mistakes, No one is perfect. Just like in the celebraty business, many things that arent true go into newspapers and magenizes because the press wants to make some money. in this case Monteys family is upset and is trying to anger him for what he did to them. We may never know if those things said in his book are true or false. But I know that Montey id not a bad man like you think he is. I worked with him for about 2 weeks. I worked up at Flags Up farm and was amazed at the beatuy, and peaceful feeling I had there. Monty although busy was a very polite and gerous man. I know he would go and make a book of lies for a profit or fame. Monty as a love for horses and a amazing way of training. But it is not for everyone. Although it was a short time there he made me a beleive of his technices and you shouldnt feel so much ahtered on him, he is a good man, and his training can work on some horse, and if you are angered over the fact that he exhausted the horse Shy boy, Well there are more things going on in this world to Horses. Like slaughters, or abuses, and if you read the book or talked to him about it he at the end gave the horse a desicion to leave and be free or stay with monty and the horse chose to stay and well thats a pertty good training method. Before you gone on insulting him you should do some research he is not all that bad!
