| Full Member | Money for training/trimming
I trim horses and do alittle training. I am good with horses, but not so much with people. Since I am fairly new, so far all but one of the horses I have trimmed were pretty badly neglected. You know the kind of people who have too many horses, not enough money, or only think of thier feet in the summer/spring(show season) Some of the horses I've done must only get trimmed twice a year if they are lucky, and when they call me the first(and sometimes ONLY) question they ask is "How much do you charge" And of course whatever I charge is too much, "the last guy charged/did....." Yeah I can tell! Anyway, this latest job is training and trimming, the owner trims dairy cattle and seems like a decent guy who cares about his horses. I'm so disorganized and forget things to say or say too much. Basically I left him with the feeling that I dislike discussing money, because I said "Usually "how much" is the FIRST thing most people asked, and it was refreshing that he didn't." Meaning that he could afford his horses, and their care was his first concern. I mean it is nice not to have to tell owners that it is time to pay me, but I don't have a problem talking about it. This came up, because we talked on the phone about me coming out saturday, and how I thought that the horse needs to be started over from the ground up. The horse needs to be handled 3-4 times a week, every week to have success. I can come out and do that for $250 a month. Even though when it comes to the horses I do a fine job, I feel like I look alittle foolish. I'm working on it, but trials and failures are hard. Any ideas on how to get better, and please my clients(within reason, lol)?

be firm with your prices and make sure not to let customers push you around. just be polite and you will be fine and of course be friendly with the horses and people
