LOL Naww I'm good. I'm going to have a certified trainer who was recomended to my by a few people come take a look see in the am. Kaitlyn doesnt think at this point she wants to trade the horse. She can ride the horse she has been since she started lessons.
This trainer will take the horse to his stable and have me and my duaghter do ground work with the horse "for a good long time" as he put it.

That is *if* he thinks the horse wont be a problem. He also will sell the horse for me down the road if he sees it isnt working out.
I think thats the road I will take if thats his opinion.

Thnx for all the great advice.

well I used to agree with Lou .. over here its your height or age that denotes what size of horse you have (usually how far your leg hangs down the side so you can flap it around like a mad man LOL!!)

but then I saw some kids riding 'finished' QH's in a show. the kids legs could barely reach around the side of the horse and the tiny fingers on the split reins .. but I know now that it does matter the size its all down to the training.. when you see a kid do a sliding stop or spin on a horse with the slightest of movement then you appreciate the training. it doesn't take brute force to pull the reins. that is unfortunatly how in this country we have a lot of the riding school horses. I have been to a lot of yards, riding schools etc and the pressure needed to get certain movements out of horses that are really dead to the aids is really hard going. I wonder if more people would start riding if they knew how light on the aids some horses can be ??

I do have to say, that isn't a comparason... you have a Mustang. A generation off of a wild mustang. That is a way different tempermant than your paint has.

NOW, I am not taking sides, I honestly think that it is a ocean barrier. The welsh type ponies over seas are a dime a dozen, good ponies over here are VERY hard to find. Most people have bad experiences with their ponies over here in the states. unless you have a child safe pony, your opinion is jaded and altered. We all know those evil ponies that we had rode, the bumpy, horrible attitude ponies. Those that are worth anything go for $5000 PLUS and are unregisterd.

We have had this argument before on the forum and the same results were discussed. We all have to agree to disagree. We do what is CORRECT for the area we live in.

Honestly we don't know where saddad lives, what trainers are around and what the situation is. If he is in the US, I say go with a well broke horse, one that has done it all and that she can learn on and grow with. OR send the horse to a trainer for at least 6 months to a year for training. BUT do not put your daughter on the horse again until you send it to the trainer.

never ridden ponies cannot ride as well as those who have ridden ponies because they have never had to deal with ponies tricks, naturally there are exceptions to every rule.
That statement right there is why we do not own a pony. I do not like their attitudes, their tricks, and it is the LAST thing my kids need is a pony with a size issue. My kids do NOT need to learn from a pony who likes to run them under trees to get them off. During the beginning, they don't NEED TRICKS. They need a good horse or pony who is willing to do what is asked, without problems.

After they learn how to ride on those kind of horses, can they then safely venture out with a trickster. And I know a few full grown horses who can out trick any pony!!

LOL....well, at least ya'll have some ponies like what we got.

I was talking to another friend of mine about this issue. And she got me thinking. How much contact to ya'll ride over there on the ponies? Compared to western pleasure type riding? Because she mentioned the games she saw when she went over on vacation. Said they were yanking the horse's around left and right. Lots of heavy handed riding compared to what we do. Which that also can make a difference in our views of training/size/etc. As no, an 8 yr old probably doesn't have the strength to yank a 15 hh horse around (without a harsh bit), but might be able to on a 12hh pony.

Just a thought since she brought it up and it started nagging me when I was re-reading everything.
