Red face Mini owners and all...My mini, Mikey is not feeling well..*update post 24* :)

Mikey was fine this morning, ate, and went out as usual....I saw him though the day, playing with Xiphias, and such...this evening, around 8:30 I went out to feed, he followed, me to the barn, and went into his stall, I gave him his little bit of feed, and fed my mare....I looked back at him, while I was getting ready to fork some hay into his feeder, and noticed he was not eating ( Mikey always eats, and makes a lot of noise flipping his bucket around) he was just standing there stairing at me....(red flag) I went into his stall and tryed to get him to eat...nothing doing....left his stall and came back into the house to get the stethacope (sp?) to listen for gut sounds....snuck out not to alert him that I was coming back and found him laying down, with is head up ( don't know what position you call it) He did get up when he knew that I was in the barn.......can't really hear any gut sounds...but his heart sounds regular and not fast, no tempeture either..compared it to Xiphias who had great gut sounds, and same normal sounding heart rythem...should I call the vet now, or moniter him through the night? I know that getting a vet here tonight might be a problem...so if he's not in real distress, can I wait, or should I start calling vets now, and hope that one will come out now? He is not showing any signs of distress, only not acting normal for him...I need advice from anyone, including Mini owners! Please...Cathy

Poor little Mikey-butt! I hope he's okay. No gutoral sounds usually indicates colic ...right? I think so but not sure.

Even so, I would walk him around for some time.

I would call the vet just to give them a head's up and ask them what they would have you do in the meantime. I know that my vet much prefers to know something is up before it becomes an emergency.

Oh poor little Mikey. I also think you should get him moving around. He might just have a touch of gas and moving around may help him to pass it. I would watch him closely and make sure you take all feed away for the time being until you know what is going on. I think if he did not show improvement soon I would call a vet if you have one you can call.

He's been out all day moving around....he looked fine, was "head boxing" with Xiphias, like usual, played with his jolly ball, and the muck bucket, that he likes to pick up and dump...as far as pooping, he's been out all day, so I have no idea what he's done all day...he had the normal amount in his stall this morning, and was fine as far as eating....When I noticed that he was not eating, I took it away from him, and did not give him any hay, only a full bucket of water....he is not acting colicky, his only signs so far are not eating...and no gut sounds that I can find...which makes me think he's constipated, or has a compaction....I am going back out to check on him again, and see what he's doing and if he pooed....brb...Cathy

Poor Mikey! Sounds like possible colic. Do you have any banamine? Is that OK for minis? If he hasn't pooped, put him in the trailer. That always works for mine!

Keep us updated!!

I just checked on him for the forth time, he pooped, it's a bit mushey, not like his usual pony apples, but at least he's not plugged up, and he's eating carrots ( he would not eat one earlier) I hope that's a good sign that he's feeling better....maybe he had gas, but from what I don't know...thanks for all the well wishes...I hope that as I keep checking him tonight, that he will be even more normal...Cathy
