| Full Member | Mini discipline for fun?
Lacey is about 7 months now and is already getting chubby with the grass and Bella has always been quite round too. All my other horses I've owned, I've ridden for exercise, but I doubt Bella or Lacey would appreciate me jumping on their backs, lol. I was thinking of lunging them, but that would be boring for them and me, same with leading around. I've been searching around for something that could be a little more fun, I researched jumping for minis after I watched Lacey jumping 'invisible' jumps lol, of course if I tried jumping it wouldn't be for a few years, I don't want to hurt her knees or legs. Anyone have any other suggestions? Thanks

You could teach them to drive, thats what most people around where I live do with them. ETA I just saw that she is only 7 months, you may want to wait awhile to teach her to drive lol I don't know what you can do for excersize for a young mini....sorry.

Anything that's considered groundwork. I've seen people teach them dance routines the same as people teach their dogs. Any type of trick training. Working at liberty can allow you all kinds of freedom to teach them many things. Pole bending, barrels, lots of choices.

You could very easily start teaching her to drive. Do you know how to ground drive a normal size horse? It's the same basic thing. You just walk behind the horse and start teaching it the basics. Another thing you could do is just walk it like you would a dog. A normal walk for a person is a slow jog or trot for most minis. Both of these exercises are great for you too!

For the seven month old, just do ground work with her, like you would do with a normal sized colt. You can teach her to walk over poles, under things, etc etc. It's not a ton of exercise, but you do what you can.
