Mini at barn dies....

Yeah...you heard it....just dropped dead....
Actually, a few horses at the barn have colds (the vet said it was bacterial, so he perscribed penacillin for them)....one of the woman at the barn is a nurse, so she was giving the horses thier shots....she put the needle in the mini, drew back the syringe to make sure she wasn't in a vein (she wasn't) and pushed the plunger.....literally 30 seconds later, the little mare falls over dead. The vet said it sounds like it was an allergic reaction....too sad.....the lady who gave the shot must feel SO guilty....
I'm just worried now because my little Jack had a little bit of a runny nose today.....::crosses fingers:: I just hope he stays healthy!
Sorry for the depressing thread....I just needed to share with "horsey" people.

I would def. try to keep little Jack and Jasmine isolated if possible.... Good luck with it though!

that's sad if she did the shot right then it wasn't her fault it was just a horrible thing that happened. I hope the rest of the horses stay healthy!

That's horrible! I feel bad for the nurse AND the mini!!! Maybe just reacted so fast because she was so small, compared to a horse.

I feel bad for both of them!

I just experienced my first true guilt of horsemanship the other day, and the mare only strained something! Imagine what the woman must feel...

They said that it was penicillin...I've never heard of penasilien before......I don't know many of the specifics....just that they injected her, and then she fell over dead....then they called the vet and he said he thought it was an allergic reaction
