Metal curry comb...bad?

I have one and use it. I just bought a book and it says DO NOT use one. It's bad for the horse and can scratch their skin. Anyone have bad experiences with metal curry combs?

I only use them for removing dried mud on a winter coat, otherwise I think it is overkill for grooming.

Yuck

I do not like them.....I use the regular ol' hard rubber ones to do the dirty work. I suppose you could scratch your horses skin with just about what ever you use, depending on HOW you use it.

I have used one and it hase not scratch her skin. If you have a arab or a thourbred it might scratch there skin. Now if you have a Quter Horse of a Applossa it wont bother them as much. I would just say that if you harse hase scratches on his skin do not use it.

Ive never had any problems with metal curry combs, or shedding blades. I only use them in the winter when they have thick coats though. Otherwise I just use my grooma during the summer to loosen mud.
