Yes I use metal curries. My TBs vary in sensitivity to them, but aren't bothered cuz I know how much pressure each one likes.

And also, just to go with everyone saying they're not intended to use on horses: How many things do we use each day that were not "intended" for use on horses?

Lmao. EVERYTHING!! Good point though, Kelli!

I use it ... and have on all types of horses. Some horses are overly sensitive to it and I won't use it on them. It doesn't always matter the breed either.

I mainly use it to clean my brushes OR to get off dried, caked on mudd that would otherwise take HOURS to remove.

i use a rubber one on cinnamon, but very gently on her back.
if you were to use a metal one on her you'd get kicked, because her back is really sensitive.
i prefer the rubber but i could use a metal one just not on her back.

I have 2 very different horses, one has very sensitive skin and swells when a knat comes within 200 miles, so i don't use a metal curry. But the other horse will come to me to brush her with it. Most of the time she is not tied, and when I go to put it up, she will follow me and nudge me for more... To each his own.

i was told strictly at one of my riding schools never to use one on a horse - only for brushes.

However, i belive it is down to your own disgression, I personally wouldnt use it on any part of a clipped or shorthaired horse even for mud - dandy brush and rubber curry for that.
I would use it howvever on eithe a heavily malting thick winter coat, or a thick coat encrusted with thisck mud
never on the face legs or stomach though

Don't remember if I posted to this resurected thread or not....

I LOVE metal curry combs. Especially come shedding season and MUD season.

I would rather use it than my rubber curry on mud, as you end up GRINDING it into the horse.

Scratch your horse up....how hard are these people using these brushes? you should not be SCRUBBING your horse with it, but a quick swift sweep, and whala, a handfull of fur that makes a shedding blade cry.

I get SOO much more hair off with a metal curry vs a rubber curry or a shedding blade. I hurt myself more with a shedding blade.

And honestly, what is the difference in using a shedder vs a metal curry? The teeth are about the same size on mine....both are metal....sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

The difference issssssssssssssss????????????

Oh, more teeth. But more teeth doesn't automatically make it worse.....

I have books that list it as a grooming tool AND how to use it on a horse. Old book too.

So if it was origionally designed to clean brushes, when did it change?

because I was taught Metal then rubber curry......THEN your soft bristle dandy brushes....

And I learned from the books, not from people at first.
