Sally, the new Fawn seems to be adjusting well.
I have been more busy than normal since Dad passed on.
Keeping up two places is a chore. Trying to get his place back to where it was when Mom was alive is proving to be a chore. Dad loved clutter. I think he felt some security in it in some form. I still have 8 old vehicles to haul off. Good thing scrap prices are up.
He had gone into repairing air conditioners after her retired. He did this for no charge. That will always...

I have not seen Houston, the deer in over a week. I hope he just wandered off and is finding a new life. I miss him. He made the morning chore rounds with me. He had become skittish / leary just before he disappeared. I hope no one took him. We have some real rednecks in out area.
I had decided to cut the upper pasture for cow hay. I was obligated 2 weekends in a row to working on the new playground at school and an early killing frost came. I did not get the hay cut. It was more of...

Bossy, the Jersey cow my son bought this past spring to raise calves on, delivered her AI calf Saturday. The dairy owner's wife gave me the wrong cow when I went to pick her up. (Culls do not give 60 lbs a day
) I buy his culls. Bossy was one of his best cows, AI bred to one of the top bulls in the US. I told the owner I would bring her back, he said a deal was a deal but he would be interested in the calf if it was a heifer.
I told him we would give him the calf free since we were given...

I baled hay today. I am through for the year and have the baler stored in the barn now.
I have mine put up up already and had planned to put this up and sale this winter. But a man called and offered me $5.00 a bale in the field. I have seen hay selling for $6.00 in the field. I told the man I could sell it for $4.50 and do alright. On this little field I can usually get around 850 bales per cut. We had 3 days with some rain this summer and I was able to bale 732 which really surprised me....

This spring, I decided to buy a couple of Jersey milk cows to raise some beef calves on. I have Bossy and Bessy.
The came from a dairy and were pretty tame. They are spoiled tame now.
Bessy calved 2 weeks ago, so she is fresh now. Day old beef calves are sky high, so I bought two additional Jersey bull calves to help keep her milked.
I was getting up at 5 am to milk her. Her "faucets" are so small, almost impossible to milk by hand.
