Yeah I admit that the hills are fun. Quicksand is definitely not fun. I'm not a big fan of seafood, but even I can tell the difference between fresh and frozen. Frozen is nasty and I can enjoy some fresh stuff.
My husband's military too. Is your husband Air Force? Mine's in the Marines so there isn't much hope of him getting stationed in Texas. At least he only has a little over a year left in the Marines. If he stays in the military he'd like to go Air Force, but we'll see if that actually happens....

Lol I think I just don't like the trees because it isn't Lubbock. I don't mind the trees there. I just don't like the forest here. I miss riding anywhere I wanted... it's too busy and whatnot here. Do you plan to stay in Texas for a while?

Lol. I'd rather go with absolutely nothing. We have a lot of trees where I am now and I find them annoying and in the way, lol!

Gotcha! I know where witchita is. I was looking at land for sale around Lubbock and looked there too. Is it all flat, barren, and dusty out there too?

Hey! I just realized that your profile says you're from northwest Texas. I'm from the Lubbock area so technically west Texas, and I miss it a lot. If you don't mind me asking, what city or county do you live near?

    Howdy Sarah,

Diatomaceous Earth is a natural earth product and will not hurt any animal topically. Just keep it out of eyes, as it is similar to glass microscopically. The way it kills bugs is that it actually cuts their protective layer and dries them. It is very effective with in minutes. The only other precaution is because it cuts on a microscopic level, breathing it in can be dangerous, so be careful.

On Vetrolin, it is the shampoo that kills fleas. I have a customer who told me that. He breeds catahulas and kurs who go out hog hunting and get into some nasty stuff out here. He won't use anything else to bathe with.

What are you doing Sunday? I think Paul is here this coming weekend. You and Casey should come down and hang out if you are not busy. I have to work Saturday, and my parents are bringing Jay back, but Sunday we are free.

    On your flea problem:

Do you have other animals coming in....where are your fleas coming from. Address that first.

    Now for treating the environment:
I will tell you from experience that Beneficial Nematodes work. I can tell you the story if you want. Just know that nematodes are a bit labor intensive, but do work.
Also, you can get granulated sulfur and spread it on your yard with a push spreader. This will be the best for preventative. And it will kill. You can slso mix it with liquid molasass and spray on yard. You can get a granule called Bayer Power force to kill the live bugs now. If you're not big on chemical, you can spread Diatomaceous Earth . This will kill bugs very well, and is all natural. I have all of these at my store, and can send them with Paul if you can't get it up there.

Have you sprayed permethrin? Fleas have a 7-10 day life cycle, so if you sprayed and still see fleas after a week, you may have to spray again.

Now for Kate: Do you have Vetrolin shampoo? It is for horses, but will kill the fleas on dogs...not labelled for that, but it does. Advantix is very expensive, but it has an insect growth regulator with will kill adults and eggs and larvae. There is also an IGR you can spray on your yard if you want. You can also dust Kate with Sevin-10 dust.

    Just some options.

bty, have heard of some people giving their livestock Diatomaceous Earth as a natural internal wormer. I haven't been brave enough to try it, but they tell me it works, and doesn't hurt the animal.

Last night was Pie's first session. We started easy with a "kiss".

The technique I used was to put a goodie inbetween my thumb and forefinger, let her know I had it, place it near my cheek, lean forward and give her a verbal command "Kisses" was the command I chose. when her muzzle touched my cheek, I brought my hand down and rewarded her with the goodie.

I made a point to NOT reward her near my face as I dont want her trying to nip.
