No...I'm not really involved in the local horse community, except for those who live near me....all cowboy types. I've resisted all of their efforts to date to "help" me with my horse, but I stupidly caved this time...

Hi my name is Kerry and someone on the forum refered me to you. I have a question in physiology and i cant figure the answer.

The question is: why is it dangerous to mix bute with lasix? The topic we are on is the kidneys. The only thing i can think of is kidney failure due to the diuretic, but that doesnt explain the bute part.

Do you know anything about this?

There are two more questions i cant get an answer, if you have anytime, i would love some help

Hi i noticed that you are a vet and i have a horse that has had an abscess in his jaw for almost 3 years. Our vet said there wasn't much that we could do except send him to guelph, but he didn't even take xrays. There is more info under Abscess advice in the health section. If you have any suggestions that would be great!

Hi, I have a question about my horses frog, is it normal for it to peel off? Someone told me the frog can shed like dead skin, is that true. My horse isn't in any pain or anything when I touch and I was just wondering if he is just shedding dead skin. Thanks!

    Hi Ryle,
Would you do me the favor of looking at some recent videos of my morab that I have been having the lamness issues with? They are on my most recent thread about her having a swollen shoulder. I am a little worried that she is getting worse rather then better.
    Thanks!

Thank you for the help. Considering she does get worse every year I know it has to be more than just normal hormones. I know I don't want to breed her either. Someone honestly suggested that, not in the funny thread but when I asked before. They said it would calm her down to be bred!

    Hi Ryle,
So I did the bute, there was a small improvment. I posted details and videos in health. I figured since you were the one who suggested it, I should let you know the outcome!
    Thank again!

    Hi Ryle,
I talked to my vet about getting some bute, she is going to get me a tub tomorrow. However I only talked with her tech and she didn't know what dosage. She didn't really want to suggest any certain dosage because they were not the recomending vet. So now I really need to know what dosage. I am calling the vet that saw her for the x-rays a couple weeks ago and let him know what is going on (he has been on vacation) and see what he thinks and if I can get him to recomend a proper dosage. Anyway, I was just wondering if you have done this before (used bute to determine between pain and neuro problems) and what dosage you would use. I hate having to go through so many different vets! Right now I have my chiro, my regular vet (who I only just started useing so she doesn't know that much about my horses yet) and the vet at the equine clinic who I have a hard time conversing with. I kinda get the feeling he wasn't always listoning to me that much and that he was jumping to conclusions. Oh well. Thanks so much for your help and suggestions!
