Both are good farriers and enjoy splendid reputations. I've not seen examples of their work, but have spoken with others who have. I think it would be worth talking to either or both of them.

Rick are you familiar with Mick O'Dalaigh or Jack Millman and/or their work? They are both fairly local to Upstate NY. I wanted to see if you have run across their work and if you think they would be a good choice to have out to take a lok at my horse. http://www.horsegroomingsupplies.com...ce-285677.html

    Trish,
    I'm a bit confused(go figure, lol).
He had an abscess in the right hind, then he got over that, then you rode him and he went lame again?

He may have pulled a muscle or strained a tendon or ligament while he was bucking. I would at least call the vet and get him/her in the loop. If you don't think its a hoof issue, then you probably don't need to involve your farrier just yet.

Hi Rick, I think I talked to you a while back when my horse was foundered. Well now hw is lame in his hind right. We got him over the founder. I got a couple rides in on him.......he went lame! Thank goodness it was an absess-not from the founder, just a nail or something. He had a couple weeks off for that(wrapped foot and stall rest and all). This weekend I rode him and now he is lame in the hind right. He was full of bucks when I got on! Did I just start riding him too fast and he's tied-up? He's just kind of dragging his right hind. You can tell it's coming from the hip area. What do you do for it? Do I need to call my vet and farrier?

Rick, I just wanted to tell you thank you. We have a mare that has thrush and of course the farrier said just use bleach, as did my husband. So I came to HGS and searched all the thrush threads. In one thread you had made a comment about using bleach to treat a yeast infection. I read that comment to my husband and he promptly drove me to the feed store and I bought some thrush buster. The thrush is looking like it's almost gone now I hope her frog comes back since they shed off really deep.

Thanks again for the great advice.

Rick. I thought I would bring this thread to your attention. I thought you might find it amusing. All Hail the Farriers Of The World.

Hey Rick I had a few questions for you if you have a chance. I have an older gelding (apx 23) I had him tested for Cushings but that came back neg so the vet told me that if its not cushings it was metabolic syndrome, The problem I am having is his central grove in his frog is very deep and wide to the point I think I am seeing the his internal hoof, what can I do to fix this? I keep him bare foot and I have a trimmer who takes care of his feet and the last thing we did was wrap his hoof and frog but I am not sure that helped much.. Christians feet grow so fast with out the wraps and with the wraps they grow even faster and we doesnt wear off the wraps in time for a trim. I am thinking about going with some boots just not sure where to go at this point. He is currenly lame and is limping in the front.
