- I was first introduced to horses at age 40. My husband wanted to move out of our suburban neighborhood and out into the country. He said he wanted horses. I was like, "You what?!!!" A few month later we bought 5 acres out in Sandhollow. Sandhollow isn't really a town (yet) but we do have a cafe and gas station. We were located between Boise, ID and Ontario Oregon. My husband bought our first horse RimRock who is a Rocky Mountain Gaited horse. Long story short, my husband still has RimRock and I have 3 horses! Tucker, who is a short stout Kentucky Mountain Horses, Radar who is turning two, he is a Rocky & Kentucky Mountain Gaited horse. We then bought a little bigger piece of land with a barn...woo hoo......in the state of Missouri.

Wednesday Tucker and I had another great lesson. It didn't start out very great though. When I haltered Tucker to load him he pinched his lips together tight (his version of the pout) and then started to grind his teeth... (he does that when he is irritated with me). Well he loaded fine as usual and we got to Ricks and unloaded fine. Tacked him up and then Mr. Attitude showed his head! LOL! Let's just say when Rick was warming him up he got into a little bit of "trouble"! But in Tucker's...
I had one of the best lessons with Tucker that I have had. (Sorry no video yet. I got the video to load on my hubbys computer but now it won't load on to youtube so I GIVE UP!
)
Anyway...... Tucker started off pretty good with Rick riding him. Rick likes to warm him up and get his brain and feet thinking in the same direction. Then I got on. We worked on getting into and staying in his single foot gait. Tucker does not go into the trot anymore which is what we have been working...

Tucker and I had our 5th lesson today. It went pretty good but Rick got to see the other side of my boy! The side that says, "I think I want to test you today!" He really wasn't too bad but definately not in a working mood. I was very happy about my progress though. I focused on keeping a good body position and like the title says.....Today I Breathed! Last week I noticed when I would get Tucker into his gait and going around the arena I would tense up and hold my breath hoping we would...
Tucker did really well today. We put him in the training curb bit and Rick rode him first. Tucker went right into his smooth gait but with quite a bit of speed today. Rick was surprised that Tucker decided to step it up a notch. When I got on and rode we worked more with my body position. We discovered that one of the reasons Tucker may break his gait is because of how I sit him when he goes into gait. I know that I tense up a little cause I know what is going through my mind. "Wow! This is...
Last evening it was nice and cool out so I decided to do some more ground work with all three boys. It was fun.
Started off with Tucker. We did a little desensitizing to the lunge whip. Everytime he sees me with it he thinks he has to move. So I spent some time working on him standing still and rubbing the lunge whip all over him. Then flipping the string over his back and around his legs. He did great! Then we lunged a bit. We did so awesome! Tucker even..........GAITED while lunging!...
