We have a pasture that I can ride in but it is extremely muddy due to the rain we just had. Our road isnt asphalt but gravel, so I think that would work just the same. Once again, thanks for all the awesome advice.

I rode in the pasture - that's all I had to ride in at the time. If that's a safe option for you, that's better - you don't want constant torque on the still-healing tendon

Thanks again. I am going to ride in a few mins. I will pretty much follow what you did as it sounds like a great plan, and it should work fine for him. I am a little worried about his wounds breaking open again though? I figure they wont unless he starts being a total idiot. Another question, Did you ride in a round pen or just ride around your property, or on nearby roads/trails? I can do either and I am trying to decide what would be best.

I started walking 20 minutes a day, 5-6 days a week, for 2 weeks or so. I then added just a couple of minutes, total, of trotting, for about a week. I added a minute or so of trotting, each way, every 3 days or so. Once I was at about 45 minutes, total, with the same 20-25 minutes of walking, I backed down to 30 minutes, replaced a few minutes of trotting with cantering, and worked back up to the 45-60 minutes total. When you increase intensity, decrease the time - golden rule. If you want to go a bit longer because it's a beautiful day, back off the intensity

Hey I have a question for you. When you started riding rio again after his tendon injury, how often did you ride and for how long? My vet just gave me the ok to ride my horse. She wants me to ride him for 20-30 mins, 3-4 days a week.

Thank you very much. That has been very helpful. We find out today or tom if he will make it. I sure hope there isnt any pressure necrosis.I will update the thread later after I get back from the vet. I am happy that Rio got better, I know it was a long haul for you also. Thanks for all the help you have given me

Yep, Rio was completely rideable after healing, and the injury didn't bother him at all. That's been 6 years since the injury. 5 years since I started riding him again, but it was only a year due to other issues, not his soundness or ability to return to work. He was perfectly sound, including jumping, until his next injury.

I have a question for you about the severed extensor tendon injury- Is Rio now rideable? Is he still off? And have their been any other problems with him since the orginal injury?

I know I am in for the long haul with my guy if he makes it, im just trying to learn more though.

    Thanks
