Denise, good for you. A huge difference is what needs to be made because what I've seen, ridden, and trained the last few years has none of the attributes that put the breed on the map in the first place.
I looked up your stallion's pedigree and I see several things that contribute to why he's a great horse. Bay El Bey, Touch of Fantasy, Gazarr, Muscat. Khemo too though it can be a tough line blended well can be wonderful. I also notice feet and legs and freedom in the shoulder matter to you. Good for you.
In retraining and selling my TB's I don't make a huge amount of $$ either, sometimes I break even, sometimes make maybe $1500. But I get really nice horses off the track, have fun, and usually sell them into forever homes or at least wonderful homes.
It's people like you that will be around to rebuild the breed like the Phoenix when AHA and all the club-footed, airheaded, high-hocked, soft-backed, nervous, inbred, can't move, sterile halter horses collapse.
I tell my girlfriend who has a lovely Sanadik stallion that when I see signs that it's improving out there...I will be back
