- I took my 1st lesson about 15 yrs ago & worked for lessons through HS but took a few years off during college. My passion for horses never faded & one day I stopped by my old barn for a visit. I had hoped to get involved again, but I could never have imagined to what extent that would be. 8 yrs later, I am working for one of the most respected trainers in the Region. In '07, I left my job to focus on my dream of training professionally. Today, I study Classical Dressage & have found a deep passion for it. I believe Dressage truly is the medium that brings us closest to our equine partners. I continue to show both H/J and Dressage, but my dream is to someday achieve GP level on a horse I breed and train myself.

I'm posting this publically because I think this could help other people facing depression or help people who love someone with depression understand a bit better. I had posted a verison of the below post on someones thread.... and decided I would keep the post in case someone else could use it to.

This sounds a lot like a Depression-induced panic attack. I know, I used to trash my life regularly when I had them.
I owe my first (WRONG) marriage,...

Something I see a lot in riders is see-sawing...
See-sawing the horse down does not create a truely through horse - instead you will get a temporary false headset and as soon as the seesawing stops, the horse will hollow out and come up again anyway.
True roundess is acheived through Steady contact - with correctly applied half halts - which incorporate the entire body, not just the reins.
The biggest misconception people have about a "round"...

I strongly believe, no matter how good a coach is, you should not spend more then a few years with one trainer. No one person can teach you everything and everyone will teach you something - even if its what NOT to do.
It sounds like you've just outgrown each other - it doesn't mean she hasn't taught you a lot or isn't good at her job -so don't feel guilty about moving on - its all part of the natural progression of riding.
I have 2-3 students who I plan to move to...
