- I have been riding for nearly 25 years. In high school I worked with many OTTBS, training them for new careers as H/J's. I have been a professional riding instructor for several years. My goal as an instructor is to provide students with a solid foundation that will allow them to pursue the riding discipline of their choice. My teaching philosophy is safety first, followed by good overall horsemanship and love for riding. I am a strong believer in Centered Riding practices and have been studying Sally Swifts riding techniques for many years. I am currently training with an international level Eventing rider/coach.

She was told he'd been abandoned twice. My coach brought him back to Michigan and he was allowed to recover for about a year and a half. He was back in decent health (although still not to a weight I am happy with) and she told me I could start working with him as a project. We were short school horses and he was...
Well, it really depends on the level of the rider. Some people pick things up much quicker then others. If you stick too closely to a lesson plan, you may go too fast or too slow for a particular rider. You should instead try to have a series of skills.... and build on them as they are each mastered. For example, my new riders learn things in this order:
Barn/Horse Safety
Catch/Lead
Groom
Tack
Mounting
Body Position (Equitation - proper position and why...
