I thought that the person that told him must have been talking about Kahoka, MO and he misunderstood. He thought she told him it was in Brighton and we were going to stay at Brighton Timber.

My son heard about it from someone in the area. But it is very strange that no one else seems to know about it.

Oh no - I hope he is getting better!! Poor guy. Between that and his hoof - he needs a break. I'm so glad that he has you guys to take care of him though.
I hope Doug is doing better - in the long run or is it about the same? He should be seeing the light at the end of the tunnel right?
I've got April at Terry Hollingsworth place. He's got a hired hand - they call Cowboy - that works his horses and I talked him into working April for me. She's been there 2 weeks now and I think it may take 2-3 months to get to the place I want her at. He loves her trot though - so that's re-assuring. We just need to get over the head tossing but they are working her everyday. I've checked on her every now and then and she's better than the first day. She got into the horrible habit and I let it go too long. I had no idea on how to correct it but at least we are there and they will help me. So, I'm happier than a bee in a bee hive. I'm just bummed that I cannot ride her. If you ever need anyone to ride Bud, let me know and I can meet up with you guys.

I'm not totally sure what it is; something like people with mules/horses getting together. There's supposed to be educational seminars, swap meets, activities, etc. It's in Brinton this weekend. This must be the first one or something and we'll probably have to take our chances on getting a camping spot. I hope you have a fun weekend at the wedding. Hay doesn't sound like fun but our crop was so poor this year I'd rather have more to do! Let me know if you ever want to ride - I'd love to meet up with you guys again :-)

On the advice of my farrier who has done her feet before. I have decided against it. He says her foot care has been horribly neglected and while she was good for trimming does not believe she has ever worn a pair of shoes. He has seen both horses and says Sally is a better choice for me. I trust him so I am keeping her. Everyone I spoke with personally who wanted me to get the Belgian had thoughts of breeding her, which I am definately NOT into. So that is that.

Hubby and I are nearing retirement age and got back into horses four years ago. We love our horses, and love to trail ride and camp! We found a great trainer near us, and have learned so much from her, and our horses have really benefited. We nursed our big draft cross (JR) through an episode with canker in 06 - he was pretty much a rescue when we bought him. He is doing VERY well now, and has become much more than a horse to me!

I had been considering training JR to kneel so that I can mount without a mounting block. (He is 16+hh and I am 5'0"), and had also talked to my friend/former trainer (Ann) about it previously! I found a few videos on YouTube that were done by considerate, knowledgeable trainers that had a METHOD.

I always need to find a picnic table or a fence to mount JR. My 59 year old knees and hips coupled with the height difference is, well, difficult. I think teaching him to kneel for...

We loaded up the boys & went down to our friend's indoor arena to ride today! They were a muddy mess, and it took about a half hour to clean them up for saddling! Also, took some maneuvering to get the trailer out and up the little incline so we could get it out. (mud, remaining ice, etc.)

But, we got there and rode for a couple of hours! The guys are not in deep winter mode, because we work them on the ground as often as possible, and we ride them bareback in the roundpen...

It is Sunday Dec. 21 - first day of Winter. The temperature has hovered around 0 all day, with a gale force wind making the windchill at 40 below. The cold is actually biting...the term is correct! It started this yesterday, (after an ice and sleet storm on Thurs. night and Friday) and there is not much relief in sight from the cold and wind. Supposed to get down to minus 15 tonight, with that wind. We did not have school on Friday, and I am not sure about tomorrow ... maybe they will delay the...

Whoosh. What a day. Doug needed a prostate biopsy because his PSA has been high. Good news is that the procedure went well, and the ultrasounds look OK...though we won't know the total result until Tuesday. But, after we left the urologist's office, we went to lunch, and Doug was feeling FINE, but shortly after that he began feeling a little bad and asked me to drive...we switched places and suddenly he was feeling awful, his color went to white and he began jerking and became unresponsive while...
