- Hubby and I are nearing retirement age and got back into horses four years ago. We love our horses, and love to trail ride and camp! We found a great trainer near us, and have learned so much from her, and our horses have really benefited. We nursed our big draft cross (JR) through an episode with canker in 06 - he was pretty much a rescue when we bought him. He is doing VERY well now, and has become much more than a horse to me!

I had been considering training JR to kneel so that I can mount without a mounting block. (He is 16+hh and I am 5'0"), and had also talked to my friend/former trainer (Ann) about it previously! I found a few videos on YouTube that were done by considerate, knowledgeable trainers that had a METHOD.

But, we got there and rode for a couple of hours! The guys are not in deep winter mode, because we work them on the ground as often as possible, and we ride them bareback in the roundpen...

It is Sunday Dec. 21 - first day of Winter. The temperature has hovered around 0 all day, with a gale force wind making the windchill at 40 below. The cold is actually biting...the term is correct! It started this yesterday, (after an ice and sleet storm on Thurs. night and Friday) and there is not much relief in sight from the cold and wind. Supposed to get down to minus 15 tonight, with that wind. We did not have school on Friday, and I am not sure about tomorrow ... maybe they will delay the...

Whoosh. What a day. Doug needed a prostate biopsy because his PSA has been high. Good news is that the procedure went well, and the ultrasounds look OK...though we won't know the total result until Tuesday. But, after we left the urologist's office, we went to lunch, and Doug was feeling FINE, but shortly after that he began feeling a little bad and asked me to drive...we switched places and suddenly he was feeling awful, his color went to white and he began jerking and became unresponsive while...
