- Hubby and I are nearing retirement age and got back into horses a couple of years ago. We love our horses, and love to trail ride and camp! We found a great trainer near us, and have learned so much from her, and our horses have really benefited. We nursed our big draft cross (JR) through an episode with canker in 06 - he was pretty much a rescue when we bought him. He is doing VERY well now, and has become much more than a horse to me!

understand them. -- Ann Bennett

My daughter just called from New York (JFK airport) -- she had just arrived from Amman, Jordan, and will be continuing on to Chicago in a couple of hours. She has been in Petra, Jordan since June 12, with her fiance and his family! They had a big Bedouin wedding bash for my daughter and her fiance...though they weren't really married yet...they will have a wedding in the US once he can come here. (It would upset the terms of the fiance visa for them to have actually gotten the marriage license...

YEEHAW the weather cooperated, and Brinton Timber was newly opened up, low 80's, light breeze...our friends called so we decided last minute to go for a ride this morning! We were worried about bugs, but our bug spray and the BRUTE on the horses proved worthy and we didn't suffer with the bugs at all.
Dusty was GREAT!
No lameness at all! He was a little high headed at first (he hasn't been out for about 6 weeks due to his hoof problems..and our friends had a couple new horses...
Dusty was GREAT!
We thought Dusty was doing well, then presented with worse limping/lameness, so Doug took him to our equine vet who was VERY thorough with him--did lots of diagnostics on Dusty including xrays--found NO evidence of laminitis or navicular, but the xrays did show that he has thin soles.
He was happy with the angle of the coffin bone WITHOUT the 3 degree pad.
He had to take the pads/shoes off to do his examination, so prescribed to put the shoes back on without the pad, but...

Can't seem to catch a break. The first Sunday in May Doug and I went to Shimek State Forest to ride. OK, we were ready to ride ALL DAY!! Took food, & loaded up JR and Dusty about 7:30 am, and got there about 9. We saddled up and were about 20 min. out and Dusty came up lame.
Doug dismounted and walked him back...seemed that up/down the hills were the worst for Dusty. We loaded back up and went back home...settled Dusty in at home with some cold hosing & linimint, and since it was...
It is just gorgeous outside, and I am at WORK. PLUS we have parent/teacher conferences tonight, so I cannot even consider a short ride this afternoon.
The mud is finally drying up a bit, but we have rain forecast for the next 3 days.
Last year by this time we had gone trail riding several times.
So, I think I will go visit my daughter in Chicago over the weekend. She is clearing out her apartment to give it up for the summer, & putting things in storage....
