Melody's stripes

I didn't want to take over the other thread, but I told HHF that I would take pictures of Melody's dorsal stripe and her other dun markings (She's not a dun)/countershading.

Oh, and forgive the clipping "accident" on her left shoulder..

Her dorsal stripe..

Her leg stripes...

Her wither "shading"...

And her adorable nose and new halter (Thanks 18thTomorrow! )

No prob I thought you would like those.

When Brittany (18thTomorrow) came down today, we were talking about her dorsal stripe and I told her what you and BW were talking about and she said (in reference to her dorsal stripe), "Yeah.. It's really there!"

And that is my whole point... her dorsal stripe is real... just being not dun does not make it any less real... other colors that are not dun do have very real dorsal stripes.... By any chance do you know if her sire or dam also have it?

Do you have photos that show her lower legs? Is it possible that she is a wild bay... those often are the closest mimic to a dun....

I don't have good ones, but I can get some in the next day or two.

Her dam was a fleabitten grey, no dorsal stripe that I know of I have NO clue about her sire. The only decent picture I have of him is the same one on allbreedpedigree.com, his name is August Bey V if you want to do a search for him.

How would I know if she's a wild bay or not? What characteristics do you look for?

Thanks for the links. I'm thinking that there's a good chance that she's a wild bay then. As you can sort of see in the third picture, there are brown areas mixed with the black below her knee. It's even more noticeable in the summer.

That is usually the case with most of them. I think they are beautiful. Melody of course is beautiful.
