Talking Mars is Coming Along :)

I worked with Mars this morning.

I put the halter on him and he didn't throw a little fit of head bobbing, he just let me put it right on!

I picked up his feet, including his back ones with out much of a fuss. By the time I got to the right hind he was getting a little annoyed, but he didn't kick out(or attempt to kick out) and he didn't try to really whip it out of my hands. He calmed down after a few seconds and I put it down.

I ponied him off of Fiona in the paddock and he was very good with the pressure.

I put his lead roop through the tie ring(didn't tie the rope) and I just held the end not attached to the halter and he was very good. He'd start moving away and the lead would tighten and he would move back towards the tie ring.

Then I took him for a walk down the street a bit. He was VERY good with "whoa" by the end and very good with "walk on". He spooked a little at a car that went by but all he did was kinda turn 90* towards me and he stopped. He saw a fence(white with wreaths and garland) and he didn't know what to make of it. He just stopped and stared so I decided to turn back home because he had been doing so well I didn't want to push it.

He was such a good boy today. I'm so proud of him!

That's awesome BBJ. It sounds exactly like what I did with Willy. The young ones have so much to learn.

He is a pretty level headed boy...But I've gotta get him over his fear of cars LOL Even parked ones...he won't go near them...

The only "problem" I have with leading is he sometimes likes to walk faster and faster and then he'll kinda trot beside me(he REALLY goes UP! LOL). I figure I shouldn't trot him in-hand until we've got the walk fully down, right?
