| Senior Member | Marigold spray?? This weekend when I went to Dover Saddlery I was looking for fly spray for Maddy. I saw some stuff by Eqyss, a natrual brand and decided to try it. Well the stuff was Marigold Spray. It was supposed to be fly spray. It smelled really great. So it attracted flies. Anyone know info about this fly spray? Should I use different spray? And what is another good brand to try? Thanks |

| Senior Member | Yeah, that marigold stuff - eh, they'll charge you a lot for it because it's natural but nobody at my barn has had any luck with it. It smells AMAZING, and that's probably why people buy it in the first place. But as for fly protection, it's not great. Natural fly protection is hard to use effectively. I think it needs to be applie much more then the chemicals. I've noticed that that yellow bottle with the black sprayer (I think its called pyrana) works well. I used a bottle last year and when I turned out my pony, he didn't even swish his tail at all while his pasture mates were swishing away. So, it did work - but it smells like a bucket of chemicals.

| Senior Member+ | In my experiences, it seems as if the Marigold spray attracted more flies than it did repel them. I would look into getting something with citronella/vinegar/garlic product/or even skin so soft. There are a lot of other options when it comes to fly repellers. I would check into some of the older posts, I know that I posted a bunch of homemade fly repellent recipes.

| Senior Member+ | If you like the idea of a natural repellent, the one I've been having GREAT experiences with is the DEO lotion (in the orange bottle with black writing). While the Marigold spray will only last 1-2 hours on my boy, the DEO lotion will last 1-3 DAYS. Since it's a concentrate, it's often cheaper than most of the other natural and chemical sprays.

| Senior Member+ | I know mine didn't say it on the bottle, I found the info online, but I think the proper dilution for it is 1:7.

| Senior Member | why is it important to wipe it on instead of spray?
