Mares under lights, now power out for 6 days.

Ok, I had the mares under lights starting January to get them cycling for a late March breeding.

We got hit with an ice storm and we lost power for 5 days. It has been overcast, below freezing, and just plain nasty for the past week. I've had to shut them in the barn, without lights, to protect them from the storms coming through.

My breeding book says that a 72 hour break in the light cycle undoes all the previous time under lights. True?

True.

Basically you are stuck. They should be entering anestrus again.

Pray they hit spring transition quick ...since it takes 60 days to "reset" in the winter months .....

@#$^!

One should be coming into heat next week. Here's hoping. Although this years weather is turning me off to late Feb./Early March babies.

I spoke to one of the vet techs in at my dogs vet. She's in the middle of calving. During the ice storm she had 4 cows give birth and the calves froze to the ground....I can't imagine.

They've been coming into heat, but I'm doing shipped and need strong regular cycles.

I think my teaser is going to be doing overtime this year.
