Mares in heat?

Just wondering for my mare. How many times does a mare come into heat and how long does it last?

They come into heat like every 28 days and stay about a week i think.Just like a women does. Im not a breeder so i could be wrong.

Horses are on a 21 day cycle, every three weeks give or take a few days depending on the mare. My girls are 21 to the day. The the heat cycle lasts 6-8 days, the last 2-3 days is usually when they are most receptive to the stallion.
