| Full Member | Mare not interested in stallion Hi, I have a frined trying to bred her stud to my mare, as both are registered, and the mare semms to not want anything to do withthe stud. The studs interested but the mare is not she acts all interested then you put them together, or tease the mare with the stud and she acts uninterested, and wants to kick him, and get away. I do not blame her, as I am not really keenon the idea, but we made a deal, but I feel bad for the mare. Why could this be, and what can I do as I just want it to be over and done with.... |

| Senior Member+ | Er, that means she's not in heat, yeah... If you're not "keen on" the idea, don't do it. Tell her no. There are enough unwanted foals in the world as is, why would you create one that you don't even want?

| Full Member | She is in heat no doubt, but the stud owner wants the baby, (filly) to carry on his bloodlines so she can geld him. Maybe becasue right after we got her she was not in heat and the stud got in her pasture, and she went through a fence and injured her self.... I do not know.. I know I would not want him... |

| Senior Member+ | No, if she were in heat she would be receptive to the stallion. Mares in heat (at least in the stage of heat suitable for breeding) won't typically try to kick a stallion's head off. And breeding a stallion so you can continue his bloodlines and then geld him is the stupidest thing I have ever heard, no offense to your friend. If she wants to geld the stallion, she needs to just geld the stallion. Why does she want to geld him? Is he not quality enough for her?

| Senior Member | If the mare is in heat and its the right time she should stand for him. Are you hand breeding? Maybe have her vet checked to see if there is another problem. Has she ever been bred before?... and as for the others I think they are wondering why you would want to breed your mare if your not interested in having a baby. Its always possible that you could lose your mare when she is foaling. And your friend, if her horse isnt nice enough to be kept a stud why breed him at all. But I do think your best bet is to have her vet checked and take it from there. |

| Senior Member+ | The mare won't always show signs of heat. I got my mare pregnant with AI, and it took 4 heat cycles. She never showed a sign of heat, and she was out with my colt. I don't know how I will breed her next year if she won't stand. |
