| Senior Member | mare not holding weight.
I have really been trying to pull away from grain feeding and go with more forage base feeding. Everyone is doing well except my Arabian mare. Can some of you share your wisdom with me of what I can feed to put weight back on her. She is on open pasture with hay 3x's daily and 2 flakes of alfalfa. She has been on a regular worming. Thanks everyone. Kelly |

Could she have an ulcer? I would give her free choice of hay and give her a quality feed brand 2-3 times a day(beet pulp, strategy etc.).If changing her diet does not help,it is time to call a vet.

How much do your flakes weigh, and how much does/should your mare weigh? What grain, and how much, WERE you feeding her? You've likely reduce the calories too much, so will likely need to find another source of calories. But, let's get the above questions answered first
