| Senior Member | mane staying over one side When we first got Chester his mane was split, half on one side and half on the other. But we prefer it to be on one side and was struggling with it at first. but we've done well to get most of it to stay, but not all of it, is there anything you can suggest to help with this? here are some pics: when we first got him. mane short and on both sides ![]() side we try to keep it on ![]() other side where the "straggly" parts are that always seem to come over ![]() but this is what we want that side to look like all the time (this was just after we groomed him) ![]() please help! thanks, Rachel and Chester

| Senior Member+ | Try braiding the mane for awhile or getting a mane tamer sleezy. Good luck! Fighting nature is an uphill battle!

| Senior Member+ | I braid the mane over to the side I want it to go. If the short parts are stubborn and still want to flip over after being braided [still in braids] I'll add more bands to the braid to make it heavier so it won't flip over. I'll keep the braids in for about two months or so, redoing them as they need to be redone, or until the mane stays over. |

| Senior Member+ | Yep, braids are the easiest, cheapest, and most effective (IMO, anyways) way to go. I braid in big braids, as it takes less time and the braids are heavier, to help keep them from flipping to the wrong side. Make sure you take them out and re-do them about once a week, as on some horses they will get itchy, and if you leave them in too long the horse will try to rub them out and damage/pull out a lot of hair...putting you back at square one. It will probably take about 2-3 months to get it to stay without braiding, and every once in awhile (every year or so) you might have to re-do some really stubborn areas, but it is so worth it to have all the mane on one side ETA: Make sure when you braid, that the hair is laying flat against the neck as you braid. If its pulled out from the neck, the braid will stick out, and be easier to catch on things and will be more likely to flip over to the wrong side |
