hey guys back from Gainesville today the new style is too band the top and then put another about half way down. Keeps the forelock from sticking out I have also seen QH start to put like 5 bands all teh way down teh forelock..looks silly, I like just the two bands myself

There is noting prettier than a thick full forelock on a pretty head for west pls....

The one thing I laugh at is the thin ones (my gelding had one) When they slick it and make it look like it is a "comb over" on a bald guy!!! It always makes me laugh.

The more natural the forlock the better, except if they bounce... that is not good!

Does it matter how long your horse's mane is?

for halter the mane should be cut short and banded, generally ours are about 2" long when all done

I agree banding is a pain in the butt, however, BRAIDING and TAPING Dressge horses is even worse!! LOL!

I spend a good 2 1/2 hours per horse to braid and tape the mane.

I plan on showing my paint qh mare. So does that mean I am going to have to pull her mane so I can place? I spend so much time trying to get it to grow really long and It'll hurt (me) to chop it down to a few inches. Is it just for wp that you have to do it or can you leave it long for equitation. I plan on doing all sorts of classes with her, and I thought you need to band a dressage horse's mane... I do care about winning but if it means making my mare look ugly I am NOT going to do it.

You braid for dressage. What type of shows are you planning on going to? (Open, schooling, breed...)

She is about 2.5 now but I am talking in the future. All I want is experience for both of us and if we're lucky we'll pick up a few ribbons too. Just wondering if the judge's will knock you off the ribbons. Winning doesn't matter too much as of now, so I think I'll keep her mane long -- unless she (and I) do suprisingly well in the ring.
