Mane and Tail

For english what would be the proper length of the tail or mane if you show a paint? Also a Quarter Horse?

For stock type horses (or really most hunter horses for that matter) you want the mane to be around 3-4 inches in length. This way it is a proper length to braid or band neatly. As far as tails go, there is no length limit. In the stock horse world, full thick tails with a blunt cut at the fetlocks is the most popular look. Many people use fake tails to accomplish this. It depends on what level you are showing in. If you're just doing open/local shows, then there really isn't a huge need to buy a tail. If you want to show at large breed shows, you may find that this is to your benefit.

If your showing APHA or AQHA you will look pretty silly with a tail above the hocks.
