Man, Misty gave me a heart attck tonight! Misty is my moms Pintaloosa mare, she is pregnant and has 56 days left to foal. Well Ed said she was down and rolling a lot this afternoon but then would get up and go back to eating. Ok, no big deal I figured she was just uncomfortable and getting the foal to move.
Well 3 hours later we bring the mares in for the night, Misty doesnt touch her grain or her hay. She gets down and rolls, then just lays there. I check for gut sounds..... that was normal. I checked her temp, that was actually a little bit low, 99 degrees. So I called the vet out for a check up anyhow (Misty last year aborted her colt 1 month b4 her due date) and the way she was wrining her tail tonight, and her vulva was swelled a little I feared she was going to abort. Well about 30 min after I called the vet, she got own and rolled again and got up. You could see the foal had moved and dropped down, she went and cleaned up her grain and had just started munching her hay when he came in. I felt bad he came all the way out here but I rather be safe then sorry! He did a compleate check and agreed her foal was making her uncomfortable and she was trying to get it to move. So least everything is ok, but she gave me on h*** of a scare tonight.
