Making Your Own Rope Halters?

Does anyone have easy-to-understand instructions on how to make your own rope halter? Preferably one you have used/tested yourself and know works well.

I would love to learn how to do it and it would be rather fun to have your horse wearing something you made yourself.

Haha, we tried to make rope halters one year at camp, it was soooo confusing! What I would do is get the rope and instructions and just get a group of horsey friends together and probably you can figure it out together, and its easier to do with more than one person. Sorry I can't help more.

The hardest part is the knot at the base... jees what is it called ... Fiorre? It's so complicated that I just gave up and tied a regular knot for the lead to clip onto.

Make sure you use a good rope that's thick enough - I made a foal halter with some parachute cord but never found any rope for sale locally that I would make a horse-size halter out of. Either it was too thin or too weak - I don't see 300 or even 700# test to be strong enough for a full size horse!

Does anyone know where to get some suitable rope for making halters? I have found a few on equine tack sites, but it seems pretty pricey.

this rope would be perfect for halters I got it from a tool supply but you could probably pick it up at lowes or homodepot

I made my own halter for Riley. It was really easy after you know how to do the knots. It came out really great, and the rope only cost me $1.99
