making the transition...(Western to english)

how do you go about turning a western horse english? say just a trail horse, and you want them to start getting in the propper dressage frame and such.

Start with just basic balanced movement. Use transitions, figures, and transitions within the gait to get the horse moving nicely. Then worry about frame. The horse must be truly balanced at all gaits and in transitions before he can carry himself properly.

No that isn't what you do at all.

Can I suggest you start by reading the postings on the forum regarding headset and outline and then find a good Riding Instructor to work with you and your horse.

Any horse, english or western should have proper collection, it doesn't matter which saddle you have on.
The transition should be as simple as changing saddles and learning how to balance in an english saddle. But, achieving proper collection should be done with the help of a trainer. There are a buch of threads about collection and headset, you should read up those, they will help you with the basics.

My horse switches back and forth between reining, eventing, working cow horse and dressage. I don't find much of a difference with the exception of the saddle I use and the bit, and the way I hold the reins.
