| Senior Member+ | Making the leap: Western to English
I need to go to bed and not be on HGS because tomorrow morning I have my very first huntseat lesson. I have had some informal English lessons and I can stay on well enough to get over itty-bitty cross-rails, but this will be my first real, all dressed up in breeches and half chaps type lesson. I'm actually certified to teach very baby beginner English, so this is a very exciting step for me. I love Western, but I figure, the more I know the better over all rider (and instructor) I will be. I have recently become intrigued with jumping, so again VERY EXCITED to start lessons. Wish me luck! Hopefully I won't fall on my head.

I am CHA certified. It is pretty reputable organization. I am only low level certified, but I am going to level up in the near future.

How do you become CHA certified? I have the book that has the tests and other info about it. Do you just have to finish the book and pass the 4 levels?

No, you have to go to a hands on clinic and be evaluated and graded on your teaching and also your riding abililty. some clinics have up to 15 people in them and those can be more lenient as the master instructors are spread fairly thin. My clinic had only four attempting to qualify for certification, so it became a teaching clinic, rather than just an evaluation clinic. My clinic was held at Grand Cypress Equestrian Center in Lake Buena Vista, Florida. They were also hosting a BHS training program at the time, so it was a great integral learning experience. We also had a plant toxicologist (IDK his actual title, I made that up, it sounds about right?) give us a multi-hour lecture about plant toxicology and the causes and effects of toxic plants. I have heard that not all CHA clinics work like that. We were lucky to have one of the few Centered Riding instructors as one of our clinicians. It was a great experience, I recommend it to anyone looking to get certified. I felt like I was in horsey boot camp.
