Making Blanket/Saddle Pad Bars On The Cheap

Recently we had our fencing redone. In the process, they tore up a bunch of our irrigation lines. So, I had a lot of scrap PVC of different lengths. I got to thinking... and decided to make a blanket bar with what I had in the hayroom. So I took the pvc and cut 3 long pieces and 4 short pieces. (just eyeballed it-measuring is for sissies... J/K) Then I took my drill and made holes top and bottom at the ends of each piece. I got two haystrings- knot one one end. Threaded a string through one side of the long pvc holes, up the center of a short pvc piece, made a knot, threaded it through the next long piece, and so on ..... Repeated on the other side. Tied the strings together at the top and voila.... a three tier blanket bar made of what might have ended up in the trash. You can make a single bar or add as many as you like... Just thought I would share!

Materials...

Blanket bar

I imagine you could use something besides twine...thin rope maybe- or even use old broom handles (wood instead of pvc).

Ever the inspiration on how to be frugal! Great idea!! You should submit your tip to a magazine and get it published. I did that once and they published mine in Equus!

Job well done.

Yah know what????? I have a BUNCH of PVC pipe I bought about 3 yrs ago to build some dog jumps and then for various reasons (ie, I got lazy and just Bought them, lol) did not!!! Roger was just complaining to me last weekend that I spent 'all that money' (about $30 lol) and did nothing with that PVC in the barn... HA!!! Now I can use at least SOME of it... I need a blanket holder for Elle', Dancer and Lexi... that ought to use up plenty... and lord KNOWS we never run out of bailing twine around here, lololol...

THANKS April for sharing that great idea!!!

Hehe, if you make it up this way I'll have to see what you can make out of my junk--so far the only thing I have is piles LOL

But I'd let you play with my chainsaw.............

I LOVE it!

I have made them in the past using 1" dowels, hole drilled in each end and a screw eye screwed in, and lengths of chain and double-end snaps for the hanging apparatus.
