Major hair loss???pics post 9

Baby has been on stall rest for 3 months now with about 2 hours daily turnout. she is a paso fino appalossa cross. 4 years old. she is still changing colors. sometimes dots and sometimes shes soild and now her face is gray. but today i was grooming her and i noticed that her back was turnning white. but after looking closely i noticed that she wasn't white but bald! the hair on her back came out while i was grooming her same thing right above her tail to. and on her lower legs. what would cause this? she is not sore. there aren't any bumps or scabs and she isn't itchy. she was a dark bay as a two year old and now has white splashes here and there. but the skin under the hair loss in a light color not dark like a bay. any ideas?

Has anything about her feed changed recently? Has she been exposed to anything new like bedding, plants, sprays, etc? The reason I ask is that I recently had a mare go completely bald as a result of an allergic reaction to a new feed. I'd never seen this before but what you are describing sounds a lot like that. Bald isn't normal, I'd call the vet. In the mean time, if there is something new in her environment get her away from it.

she was on 24-7 turnout untill jun. she foundered and so she has been on a no grain hay only diet. she is also getting two tablespoons of magnessum oxide. the bedding is the same that i have always used although it comes from a saw mill so there might have been something in it. the only thing they garuntee is that there is no walnut in it. same fly spray as last year.still using the same load of hay from last year to. i'll try to get pictures to today.

The only time I have ever had this happen was when a mare we had cut herself very bad, after she started healing and she was on the mend she started losing her hair, I paniced and called the vet. He came out and looked and checked her out. Told me tht sometime when a horse is highly stressed they will lose their hair, but not to worry it would grow back. It did in about 2 months. But in the interium she lost all of her hair off of her withers and back. Otherwise seemed health. Never saw or have heard of it before or since. Possibly whe your mare foundered she just got super stressed???? Anyone else ever heard of this happening.??

He was loosing patched of hair all on his body and face... the vet told me to put MGT on it I did and all of his hair grew back in three weeks let me see if I can find a pic.

if she is on a hay only diet I would almost bet you are looking at a vitamin/mineral defiency add either a GOOD vitamin/mineral suppelment to her diet or a ration balancer as we call them

she gets only hay and a coffee cup full of grain to take her magox with. the hair all over her body feels rough and when i rub my hand down her clumps of hair come out. here are some pics. some of the places are actual whit spots but the ones right along her back are small patches of hair loss. b-4 she went on stall rest she was nice a slick and dark shiny bay. now her face is graying out and she just feels rough and her hair doesn't lay flat. i guess it could be stress. or maybe lacking a min/vit. what min/vit supplement would be safe to feed a IR horse?

You could look for a ration balancer or smartpak has the smartvit line that is pretty good or dynamite has good ones as well ...

If that is all she is getting I will almost bet that it is a vitamin/mineral def
