Hi!! What is your opinion on magnet boots for horses? Does it truly help the joint, or is it just a silly marketing thing? I'm thinking of getting some of those cool magnet hock boots for Feliche, just because I want to do everything I can to keep his joints healthy at this point. Thanks for your input! -Megs ETA: How about copper? You know the bracelets that help joints? What would this do for horses when applied externally?

I'm pretty sure they do something. When a group of girls from our barn went to Kentucky to purchase horses, they came back saying that at one stable ALL the horses had magnetic blankets and boots on, to hide the ones that really needed it. They didn't even think about buying those horses. So.. it does something not sure what =P

They are good if you want to hang your horse from the fridge as a reminder, but there is ZERO scientific evidence that shows they reduce pain or inflammation. The only ones that may work in a limited fashion are certain electromagnets. However the only ones marketed for pain and inflammation are static magnets not electromagnets. Save your money.

I think they are a bunch of... well you know. No scientific evidence of anything besides the placebo effect, or the effect of the weight of the magnets. Also there is not scientific reasoning for it to work. Just the other day someone wash selling massage magnets saying how well they worked.. the forgot to mention you get the same effect from just a massage and relaxation. Besides, most of the magnets they sell are not even strong enough to penetrate the skin and/or muscle. If you want some real magnetic therapy... get in an MRI machine. |

Lol thanks for your responses! Hey, while on the subject...what are some little things that you can do to keep joints healthier (besides the obvious--nutrition/work type etc) |

I'm going to have to disagree. I've used magnets on myself and on my horses. IMO they DO work. They are not something that should be used all the time but they are a good therapy tool if used correctly.
