Magnetic Therapy.. anyone use it.. and why

Just wondering if anyone uses magnets on their horse, or even themselves.

The reason I ask, is I went to horse expo and walked by a stand with some big expensive full body suit that you can use on your horse and put magnets in certain places. Well, being the trouble-making skeptic I am .. I started asking questions (take in mind Rob was standing side me grinning the whole time, knowing when it comes to certain topics I can be smarter than the average bear). I wanted to know WHY I should do this.. WHY/HOW it works.
Well after her bumbling around for 5 minutes she said "studies say it works" yet she didn't have any studies (you can manipulate a lot of studies to show what you want, so I like to see how they are done and recorded). She had no medical explanation or even THEORY as to why it worked "it just does" and basically stopped with saying she was just hired to run the booth she doesn't even work for the company

So.. I would like to know why some people use it, and maybe help to educate some people to make sure they are not spending their hard earned money on bad information. If you do it on faith, that is another story, but bad/miss-information really irks me.

Well, don't know if this is a myth or not, but, a lot of us wear copper bracelets with magnets in them to help with arthuritus (spl?) becasue of ancedotal evidence rather than medical evidence. If it looks good, why not, LOL.

However, I was using a magnetic blanket on Jack for his fracture borrowed from a good friend, and she uses it on her competition horses and swears by it. We were also using her "radio" frequency thing-a-ma-bob on Jack also when it was just a fracture. She has used it on some of her horses with fractures before and swears that it helps. I didn't mind using it, because it wouldn't hurt anything and it might just help, and it was free for me.

Now, would I go out and spend a small fortune on either of these things myself? Probably not. But offer to let me use yours, and you bet. LOL.

You know those magnets in bracelets are barely strong enough to penetrate the skin with their magnet field? They basically use fridge magnets that are really weak. But hey if it looks like a nice bracelet you would buy for looks anyways then go ahead.

We own one of these...

We have used it for sore muscles, backs and shoulder and hind end issues...we also have the hock boots that hook up to it... I have seen a big differernce when using this before riding stiff horses... and over time it really does relieve pain... here is a quote about the product...

Magnetic Pulse Therapy
Magnetic Pulse Therapy is a relatively new and very effective form of physical therapy. It is not a miracle, but simply a physical / biophysical modality used to accelerate therapeutic purposes.

From clinical experiments, we know that Magnetic Pulse Therapy can reduce pain sensations almost immediately.

Magnetic Pulse Therapy permeates all cells, enhances ion exchange, normalizes circulation and increases the oxygen utilization of the cell.

By influencing the body with a magnetic field, packed in impulse bundles, the cellular functions can be improved.

Magnet Pulse Therapy will reduce pain, reduce inflammation, stimulate, increase circulation and help with rehabilitation.

On what type of injuries/problems can Magnetic Pulse Therapy be used?
1. Arthritic joints - Orthopedic conditions - Fractures.
2. Open wounds and circulatory problems.
3. Soft tissue problems - sore back, muscle tightness, body soreness.
4. Chronic pain - Acute inflammation.
5. Hip dysplaysia and general debility.

I've used it, my ex-hubby used it, and I've used it on horses, all with various affects. The one thing that I DID see on a horse was we put a magnetic pad on his back, which was very sore and spasmed. The owner said the horse was like that chronically, well 2 hours later and bingo it was a miracle. If I had not seen it with my eyes and the owner too, I would never have believed. Some things they worked for, some they didn't, so I don't have much to say on them one way or the other.

I have a people set I have used for various aches and pains and I think it works. It actually has larger bands for the magnets (for shoulders, back) that would fit around various horsey parts and I have often thought I would try it if one of my horses acted like they were achey or sore.

My friend spent $10 on a magnetic bracelet. We told her it wouldn't work...it didn't.

Its funny, she never even mentioned some of those things(pretty sure that is the same company), but most of what they mention does not answer the "why". I am going to have to ask some true science geeks to translate the highlighted line, that is the only one that appears to give some kind of "why" but honestly it looks like technobabble to me (which is a common technique used).

Moostang, the way it was explained to me is that the magnets are lined up to create a "charge field" they are opposite one another, and creates increased blood flow to the area, which promotes healing.

This is why it works, we are all made up of atoms (protons, electrons and neutrons-a basic magnet in itself). Now, if an area of the body is traumatized or injured, the atoms become blocked and that's where you get your pain. The magnetic therapy basically keeps the atoms moving thruout the body-basically the same way the blood moves-if there's a blockage (blood clot)there is pain. I am a Healing Touch for Animals practitioner and can feel where the areas are blocked and can open that area up to get rid of the pain. I know it works, because I've had it done on myself many times and have worked on people with great results. Using the blankets just keeps you from having to get someone out there to work on them for you.
