| Senior Member+ | Have you been doing everything suggested by the vet? If there still is no change you may want to inform your vet so they can come up with a better plan.

Prognosis for early stages is generally not too bad, as long as the horse is given aggressive treatment to reduce the swelling. Late stages of Lymphangitis causes damage to the draining lymph vessels which results in limb swelling/edema. The edema causes chronic fibrosis and permanent swelling or thickening of the leg. Chronic disfigurement is usually resistant to all treatments but your Vet may have some treatments he wants to try, so a phone call to him would be your best bet. Physiotherapy, massage and bandaging after riding or working may be helpful but chronically swollen legs are very prone to re-infection. |
