How did I know you were going to say that? This is proven because white takes away pigment leaving white/pink. In order for color (black in this case) to be there, pigment has to be there... aka ermines.

Right but if the skin is pink when you hose the horse how can the black be hidden?

Because when the horse is developing, the way the white travels, a horse could have an area of pigment, or non pigment, inside that you can't see.

Because you DO see it. If the leg is white and the hoof is black... you are seeing the result of pigmentation.

I guess what I am looking for is proof that ermine is the cause instead of frame for instance. I have seen ermines without black on the hooves...
